African Swine Fever outbreaks continue in Poland
African Swine Fever (ASF) continues to impact pig farming in Poland, with several new outbreaks confirmed in 2026. The most recent case was identified in Czartowiec, within the Lubelskie Voivodeship, affecting a herd of 16 pigs. This marks the eighth confirmed outbreak in the country this year. Following laboratory confirmation by the National Reference Laboratory for ASF, veterinary services have initiated protocols including the culling and disposal of the affected animals, followed by strict disinfection of the farm.
Other recent outbreaks have been reported across various regions. In the Pomeranian Voivodeship, a herd of 18 pigs in Ruszcze was found to be infected. Previous cases in 2026 include outbreaks in the West Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeships, involving herds ranging from 17 to 378 animals.
Authorities are conducting epidemiological investigations to determine how the virus is spreading, noting that the disease is widespread among wild boar populations. In 2026, over 1,600 ASF cases have been recorded in wild boar, particularly in northern Poland. To prevent further spread, veterinary inspections are establishing restricted zones within a 10 km radius of confirmed outbreaks, which may impact neighboring farms through movement and supply chain restrictions.
