African Swine Fever outbreaks reported in Can Tho and Dong Thap

African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreaks are spreading across several provinces in Vietnam, specifically impacting livestock in Can Tho and Dong Thap.

In Can Tho, six new outbreaks were recorded in the first half of October. Since the beginning of the year, the disease has appeared in 20 communes and wards, resulting in the destruction of over 900 pigs. Local veterinary authorities have noted that 10 areas are still within the 21-day monitoring period. Recent infections were confirmed in communes including Dai Hai, Nhon My, Tan Phuoc Hung, Luong Tam, and Tan Thanh.

In Dong Thap province, authorities have confirmed positive test results in Hau My and Long Khanh communes. Since the start of the year, 42 households have reported sick pigs, totaling nearly 790 animals out of a herd of approximately 1,600 in 12 communes. To date, nearly 1,500 pigs, weighing over 65 tons, have been culled in the province.

Local agricultural departments are implementing emergency measures, including environmental disinfection, strict monitoring of slaughterhouses, and prohibitions on the transport or improper disposal of diseased carcasses to prevent further spread.
