African tech ecosystem sees growth in seed investing and startup discovery
The African technology and venture capital landscape continues to evolve through both individual investment and new institutional discovery mechanisms. South African entrepreneur Justin Stanford has emerged as a foundational seed investor, providing early-stage funding to prominent firms such as the cryptocurrency exchange VALR and the B2B e-commerce platform Wasoko. Stanford’s transition from a cybersecurity entrepreneur to a strategic investor has focused on scalable models addressing structural inefficiencies in fintech, logistics, and agriculture.
In East Africa, the media platform TechMoran has announced the launch of the StartupEast Conference & Awards. Scheduled for December 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya, the initiative aims to identify early-stage startups that have raised less than $2 million and are less than eight years old. The program seeks to connect founders in sectors such as artificial intelligence, fintech, and climate technology with investors and strategic partners, acting as a discovery mechanism for businesses that have yet to achieve high visibility.
