Morocco and Mistral AI release open-source tools for Darija
Morocco and Mistral AI have released two open-source artificial intelligence tools designed to address the linguistic and cultural specificities of the Kingdom. This initiative is a key component of the 'Maroc Digital 2030' strategy and the 'AI Made in Morocco' roadmap.
The first tool is a linguistic classifier capable of identifying various Arabic dialects, with a specific focus on Moroccan Darija. The second tool, named Voxtral, is an automatic speech recognition model. Voxtral is designed to transcribe speech and can handle code-switching, allowing it to process instances where speakers alternate between Arabic, French, and English.
These tools are intended to support a wide range of stakeholders, including government administrations, startups, researchers, and developers. Potential applications include public services, education, media, customer support, and the digitization of multilingual documents.
