African Union denounces drone attack on Egypt's Damietta port

On 29 July a drone struck vessels at Egypt’s commercial Port of Damietta. The African Union Commission, led by Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, condemned the incident as a serious breach of Egypt’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The AU expressed solidarity with the Egyptian government, praised the swift response that prevented loss of life, and called for heightened vigilance to protect strategic civilian infrastructure across Africa. It urged all parties to exercise restraint, warned that Africa must not become a battleground for external conflicts, and said investigations are underway to identify those responsible.
