Africa's 2026 FIFA World Cup performance and prize money overview

Africa was represented by a record ten nations at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co‑hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament offered a total prize pool of $871 million, with an opening reward of $600 million shared among all 48 teams. Remaining funds were distributed by stage: $11 million for teams reaching the Round of 32, $15 million for the Round of 16, $19 million for quarter‑finalists and further sums for later rounds. Each participating nation received $12.5 million, plus a $2.5 million preparation allowance, and Morocco earned the highest individual share, amounting to $57.5 million.

Nine of Africa’s ten teams advanced to the knockout stage. Cape Verde reached the last 32 and was rated 8/10, Ghana also exited in the last 32 with a 5/10 rating, and Algeria, DR Congo and others made similar progress. Tunisia was the only side eliminated at the group stage, receiving a 1/10 rating. Overall, the African contingent performed strongly, with the majority achieving historic milestones and competitive results.
