Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger announce joint AFCON 2032 bid

Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger – all governed by military juntas and members of the Alliance of Sahel States – have formally submitted a joint proposal to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations. The three federations said the bid is built on “solidarity, regional integration and sustainable development of African football” and will be developed with relevant authorities.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe told BBC Sport Africa that the three countries “will have as good a chance as everybody else” and that security guarantees will be examined but the fact they are military regimes will not prejudice the assessment. He added that democracy, freedom of speech and regular elections are “non‑negotiable”.

The Confederation of African Football has opened the bidding process for the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions and has confirmed that the joint declaration of interest from Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger meets the initial requirements, allowing the trio to move to the next stage. A working meeting was held in New York with Motsepe and the federation presidents to discuss the bid and security assurances.
