After-school care shortages reported in Marl and Recklinghausen

As of the 2026/27 school year, first-grade students in Germany have a legal entitlement to after-school care (OGS) places. However, implementation in the Recklinghausen district shows varying levels of availability.

In Marl, 886 children are being enrolled across 13 primary schools. While most are covered, nine first-graders have not yet been assigned an OGS place.

In Recklinghausen, the city has prepared 3,125 places across 125 OGS groups. While officials state that families with complete documentation have received confirmations, waiting lists still exist, and some older children are currently unable to secure spots.
