Afyonkarahisar greenhouse poisoning affects 33 workers

The number of workers hospitalized due to poisoning at a tomato greenhouse in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey, has risen to 33. The incident occurred at the Alsera greenhouse, owned by Alarko Tarım, located in the Erkmen district.

Reports indicate that pest control spraying had been conducted in the greenhouse two days prior to the incident. Workers, who had been on leave, were called back to begin production. Upon starting work, many of the approximately 80 employees reported symptoms including vomiting, fever, and severe headaches.

Emergency response teams, including AFAD’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) units, as well as UMKE, were dispatched to the scene. Investigations determined that workers were affected by gas exposure. Most of the affected individuals were discharged after receiving treatment and being kept under observation. Production at the greenhouse has been temporarily suspended, and a prosecutor's office investigation is currently underway.
