Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi to resign from National Conference and Lok Sabha seat

Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi has announced his intention to resign from both the National Conference (NC) party and his Lok Sabha seat on November 3, 2026. The chosen date marks the death anniversary of his father, Aga Syed Mehdi.

Ruhullah accused the NC leadership of failing to uphold key electoral promises made during the 2024 Assembly campaign, specifically citing the restoration of Article 370, the protection of constitutional rights, the release of prisoners, and reservation policy reforms. He criticized the current administration, alleging that the leadership treats Jammu and Kashmir as a family estate and has sidelined the core issues used to secure votes.

While distinguishing his departure from other internal party unrest regarding ministerial appointments, Ruhullah stated his decision is based on principle. He asserted that he refuses to be an accomplice to the betrayal of the promises made to the electorate.
