Agadir shellfish harvest banned due to marine toxins
The Secretariat of State for Maritime Fisheries has issued a ban on the harvesting and commercialization of shellfish products from the Douira-Sidi R’bat zone in the Agadir region. This decision follows analyses conducted by the National Institute of Fisheries Research (INRH), which detected marine toxins in mussels at concentrations exceeding authorized thresholds.
The ban will remain in effect until the environment is fully purified. Authorities have advised consumers to exercise caution and prioritize packaged products with sanitary identification labels sold at authorized official markets. Officials warned against purchasing bulk products, as they lack sanitary guarantees and pose a risk to public health.
