Agasa destroys 5 tons of spoiled eggs seized in Bitam
The Gabonese Food Safety Agency (Agasa) destroyed 83,880 spoiled eggs in Bitam, Ntem Department, following a seizure by customs officials. The shipment, consisting of 233 cartons and weighing approximately 5.032 tons, originated from neighboring Cameroon.
Customs officers intercepted the cargo during a routine inspection after detecting false declarations and contradictory information provided by the economic operator. The products, which were prohibited for import, were intended for sale in local markets, including those in the capital. The market value of the seized goods was estimated at over 12 million CFA francs.
The destruction operation was conducted at the municipal landfill in the presence of administrative authorities and security forces. The owners of the shipment have been handed over to judicial authorities for legal proceedings.
