Agata Trzebuchowska’s film “Sick” premieres at Fantastic Fest 2026

Agata Trzebuchowska’s directorial debut, the Polish horror-drama “Sick,” premiered at Fantastic Fest 2026. The film follows two siblings, sixteen-year-old Maks and nineteen-year-old Emma, who spend an isolated summer caring for their ailing grandmother in a remote country house.

The narrative explores an intensifying and inappropriate dynamic between the siblings alongside the mysterious physical deterioration of their grandmother. Trzebuchowska noted that the project emerged from a desire to create an intimate film with a small crew of ten people, allowing for extensive rehearsals and experimentation over 28 shooting days.

Critical reception highlights the performances of Katarzyna Łubik and Konrad Kąkol, as well as the film’s immersive cinematography and jarring musical score.
