Rosa Bretto resigns from PASOK, criticizing party leadership

Rosa Bretto, the Deputy Secretary of the Health Sector for PASOK, has resigned from her position and the party. In a letter addressed to party leader Nikos Androulakis, Bretto criticized the current leadership for what she described as “inherent bureaucratic shackles,” “inertia,” and a “lack of initiative.”

Bretto argued that the party has become a “creation of mechanisms and lists of people” rather than a political movement, and claimed that the leadership has neglected the party’s historical social roots. She specifically highlighted the decline of the public health system, stating that PASOK’s current proposals are “anemic” and “weak” in addressing the needs of healthcare workers and patients.

Following her departure, political speculation suggests Bretto may join the party led by Alexis Tsipras. PASOK leadership responded sharply, accusing Bretto of acting as a “pawn” in Tsipras’s political strategy and noting that she had already become distanced from the party's activities.
