Agcom blocks access to Viagogo in Italy over unpaid fines
The Italian communications authority, Agcom, has ordered telecommunications operators to block access to the secondary ticketing platform Viagogo.it within Italy. This marks the first time this specific procedure has been applied to a secondary ticketing site.
The decision follows the company's failure to pay definitive sanctions totaling approximately 53.4 million euros. This debt includes 48.6 million euros in fines from the 2020 to 2023 period, including interest and surcharges, plus an additional 4.86 million euro fine issued in November 2024.
The blocking measure was made possible by a provision in the 2025 Bollette decree, which allows Agcom to order the obscuration of a site if unpaid, non-contestable sanctions exceed one million euros. Agcom Commissioner Massimiliano Capitanio stated that the measure reinforces the principle that national laws must be respected by digital and cross-border companies operating in Italy.
