AGCOM introduces new blue label for high-performance FWA connections

The Italian communications authority, AGCOM, has issued resolution no. 207/26/CONS, introducing a new “blue label” to identify high-performance Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) connections. This new classification aims to provide greater transparency for consumers navigating internet service offers.

Under the new rules, FWA connections will be categorized into three tiers: red, orange, and blue. To qualify for the blue label, which must include the text “misto fibra-radio VHCN”, providers must meet strict performance criteria based on European Berec guidelines. Specifically, the connection must deliver a download speed of at least 1000 Mbps and an upload speed of at least 200 Mbps during normal peak hours.

The decision to use a blue label rather than the existing green label was intentional to avoid consumer confusion. The green label remains reserved exclusively for pure fiber connections (FTTH or FTTB). Additionally, to improve clarity, the authority has decided to remove references to maximum theoretical speeds from the labels themselves.
