Agde’s Canal du Midi to Hérault River Trail Launched for Walkers

A new marked walking route links the historic Canal du Midi with the mouth of the Hérault River near Agde, France. The 12‑kilometre (7.9‑mile) trail passes plane‑tree avenues, beaches, vineyards and a series of canal locks. Walkers start at Agde station, follow Avenue Victor Hugo to a round‑about, cross several footbridges and railway lines, and continue along the Canal du Midi, the Canal de l’Hérault, and the Tamarissière coastal path before reaching the river’s outlet. The path is rated easy, with a modest elevation change of about ±4 m and an average duration of three‑hours‑forty‑minutes.

The route highlights cultural sites such as the historic garden near Château Laurens, the Plaine de Jeux in Parc Belle Isle, and the Écluse Ronde d’Agde lock, offering both natural scenery and local heritage for hikers and tourists.
