Agencia EFE disputes order to reveal executive bonus recipients
Agencia EFE is contesting a resolution from the Transparency Council that requires the public news agency to disclose the identities and specific amounts of 55 executives who received variable compensation in 2025. The total amount distributed in these bonuses reached approximately 688,780 euros.
EFE management has stated it will file an administrative appeal, arguing that the obligation to reveal personal identities should be decided by a court and citing data protection concerns. This dispute occurs as the agency faces significant financial challenges, reporting losses exceeding 14 million euros in the first nine months of 2025 and a negative net worth of 47 million euros.
Labor representatives, including the Sindicato Independiente, have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency regarding the use of public funds. Union spokespersons noted the difficulty in justifying large executive bonuses while some staff members report insufficient wages, with some journalists in certain delegations earning less than 1,000 euros.
