Agency for Metrology of Kosovo urges gold and silver quality checks

The Agency for Metrology of Kosovo (AMK), operating under the Ministry of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade and Innovation, has issued a call to citizens to verify the quality of gold and silver before purchase. Consumers are advised to request proper guarantees and documentation from sellers to protect against inaccurate claims regarding metal composition and purity.

Economic operators are legally obligated to submit precious metal products to the AMK laboratory for verification before they are placed on the market. The verification process includes weighing products on calibrated scales, checking documentation such as invoices and proof of origin, and using X-ray technology to determine the exact composition. To ensure accuracy, the laboratory conducts three consecutive measurements for each item.

The laboratory verifies gold (including 14, 18, 22, and 24 karat), silver, platinum, and palladium. In 2025 alone, the AMK laboratory processed 470 requests for precious metal verification. Failure to comply with these legal requirements can result in sanctions.
