Agenda 227 coalition proposes child protection policies to Brazilian candidates

A coalition of over 520 civil society organizations, known as Agenda 227, has submitted proposals for public policies and goals aimed at protecting children and adolescents to presidential and state government candidates in Brazil.

The movement has produced two distinct documents: one for presidential candidates and another for gubernatorial candidates. These proposals cover critical areas including education, health, early childhood development, professionalization, and the prevention of violence.

The documents highlight that certain demographics—including Black, Indigenous, and immigrant youth, as well as those living in urban peripheries and the North and Northeast regions—face disproportionate exposure to poverty, food insecurity, violence, and climate risks. The initiative seeks to democratize access to essential services and combat prejudice based on gender, race, origin, and social class, citing Article 227 of the Brazilian Constitution which mandates the protection of rights for those aged 0 to 17.
