Agentic Payments launched on NPCI's new protocol in India
At the Global Fintech Fest, new developments in the Indian fintech sector have introduced Agentic Payments powered by the Unified Agentic Protocol (UAP). This new rail, developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), allows AI agents to complete purchases on behalf of customers using cryptographic proof of authorization.
Cashfree Payments has launched this service and is currently working with Jio as a merchant partner. The technology aims to bridge the gap between AI-driven product discovery and the final transaction, reducing friction in the customer journey. Rather than granting unrestricted access to bank accounts, the system is designed to operate within specific permissions and spending limits set by the user, focusing initially on small, routine transactions.
