Agentmuxer launches on Base to unify AI agent tool access
Amorphic Labs has launched Agentmuxer on Base, a unified router designed to streamline how AI agents access external capabilities. The platform aims to simplify development by providing a single interface and balance for various tools, including web search, data scraping, image generation, and sandbox computation, eliminating the need for multiple API keys and subscriptions.
Agentmuxer utilizes smart routing to select from providers such as Exa, Tavily, and Firecrawl based on quality, cost, success rates, and latency. The system is built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which standardizes how agents communicate with external tools.
To manage complex API integrations, developers are adopting patterns that utilize MCP to implement a four-step capability workflow: discover, inspect, probe, and call. This method allows agents to maintain a small initial tool surface, discovering and validating specific capabilities only as needed to improve reliability and control costs.
