AGETIP disputes equipment placement in Dakar Corniche Ouest project

A dispute has emerged between the General Agency for Works and Management of Public Infrastructures (AGETIP) and the City of Dakar regarding the Corniche Ouest development project. The conflict centers on the placement of fitness equipment, donated by the Chinese government, which the municipality installed on land designated for the project.

AGETIP Director General El Hadji Malick Gaye clarified that the agency does not oppose the donation itself, but rather the specific location chosen by the city. The equipment was placed on the ‘digue Dragon’ area, a site reserved for a major sporting installation intended to accommodate over 300 people.

AGETIP maintains that the project is a matter of public interest authorized by the state and is located on the maritime public domain. The agency stated it had proposed several alternative sites to the Mayor of Dakar to accommodate the equipment without compromising the planned infrastructure, but the municipality proceeded with the installation despite these discussions.
