Agia Sophia camp reopens in Thermo, Aetolia-Acarnania
The Agia Sophia camp in Thermo, Aetolia-Acarnania, has reopened after remaining closed for decades. The facility, which once hosted generations of children, had become a symbol of abandonment in the mountainous Greek periphery.
The reopening aims to reconnect younger generations with their ancestral roots and strengthen ties with the diaspora. The Thermo region is noted for its significant historical and natural assets, including the Sanctuary of Apollo Thermios, Byzantine monasteries, and the archaeological site of ancient Thermo, which served as a religious and political center for the Aetolians.
