Agios Andreas Hospital flooded in Patras following heavy rain

Heavy rainfall in Patras caused significant flooding within the G. Gennimatas building (the ‘Tachyrrythmo’) of the Agios Andreas Hospital on Tuesday morning. Rainwater entered the facility from the third floor down to the ground floor, flowing through corridors and workspaces.

Medical staff and cleaning crews worked to protect medical equipment and contain the water using containers. Due to safety concerns regarding proximity to electrical installations and medical devices, some medical appointments were canceled. Patients and staff were reportedly temporarily moved from certain sections of the building to ensure safety.

The affected building houses several critical services, including Rheumatology, Neurology (day hospitalization), the Mediterranean Anemia Unit, and Ophthalmology clinics. The flooding occurred while the building was undergoing upgrade works, with staff suggesting that waterproofing issues may have contributed to the extensive water ingress.
