Agios Andreas Hospital in Patras closed due to flooding

Agios Andreas Hospital in Patras has faced significant operational disruptions following heavy rainfall that caused flooding within the facility. Water entered the building through the roof and various points, affecting the second, third, and ground floors. This led to the temporary closure of the 'Tachyrythmos' (Fast-Track) unit and the 'G. Gennimatas' building to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.

The flooding occurred while energy upgrade and roof insulation works were being conducted by a contractor. Staff members were seen using containers to collect leaking water and attempting to protect medical equipment from potential damage or electrical hazards.

As a result of the closures, all scheduled appointments for Thursday, September 24, 2026, have been canceled. The hospital administration stated that the outpatient secretariat will prioritize rescheduling these appointments. Technical inspections and restoration works are being carried out by the contractor and teams from Building Infrastructure SA to prepare for the upcoming wave of bad weather expected in Western Greece.
