Agios Dimitrios Power Plant demolition sparks parliamentary inquiry

París Koukoulopoulos, Vice President of the Greek Parliament and PASOK – Movement for Change MP for Kozani, has filed a formal request for documents regarding the planned demolition of cooling towers and equipment at the Agios Dimitrios Power Plant.

The parliamentary intervention targets the Ministry of Environment and Energy, specifically requesting all documentation used by the government to authorize the removal of installations and equipment belonging to the Public Power Corporation (DEI). Koukoulopoulos emphasized that he has exhausted various institutional oversight methods to prevent irreversible actions that would impact the local community.

Furthermore, the MP highlighted that rising natural gas prices make the continued operation of the Agios Dimitrios plant a matter of public interest. The request follows a decision published on the Diavgeia transparency portal regarding the approval of studies for preliminary demolition and removal works at the facility.
