Agios Dometios checkpoint arrest results in fine for Cypriot woman

A 45-year-old woman, a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus and the United Kingdom, has been released with a fine following her arrest at the Agios Dometios checkpoint.

The incident occurred when the woman drove through the checkpoint toward the occupied areas on Friday, August 21, allegedly violating a military prohibited zone and failing to complete necessary immigration procedures. She was subsequently arrested the following day, Saturday, August 22, while attempting to cross back to the free areas.

During the proceedings in occupied Nicosia, the prosecutor noted that the woman had no prior criminal record and she accepted the charges. Her lawyer stated the incident was a result of negligence and expressed remorse. Taking into account her clean record and the circumstances, the court imposed a fine of 15,000 Turkish Lira, approximately 273 euros.
