Agios Neophytos Monastery incident leaves two injured in Paphos

The Agios Neophytos Monastery in Paphos has issued a statement regarding an incident that occurred on August 7, involving a deacon from a European country. According to the monastery, the conflict arose from the deacon's refusal to vacate a specific room for approximately four years. The room had previously housed the deacon's father for nearly 20 years until his passing.

Following a request to hand over the space after a morning service, an altercation ensued. The incident resulted in injuries to two individuals: a monastery employee and a novice monk. Both victims were transported to the Paphos General Hospital for medical treatment.

The Cyprus Police have been notified and are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident. The injured employee has filed a formal complaint. The monastery stated it is cooperating fully with the authorities and will refrain from further comment while the legal process is ongoing.
