Agios Nikolaos implements measures against Xylotrechus insect infestation

The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos, through its Green Service, has issued an alert regarding an infestation of olive trees by the wood-boring insect Xylotrechus. A primary symptom of the infestation is the presence of dry branches with attached withered leaves.

To combat the spread, the municipality has implemented pruning of affected trees and the removal of infested parts. They are also utilizing the TreeCare method, which involves injecting approved plant protection products directly into the tree trunks, following procedures approved by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food.

Local residents and business owners are urged to inspect private olive trees for symptoms and consult agronomists if issues are suspected. Authorities emphasize that pruning residues must be removed immediately to prevent further spread and note that chemical spraying is prohibited within residential areas.
