Agios Nikolaos municipal council holds dialogue to upgrade council operations
On Thursday 16 July 2026, the municipal council of Agios Nikolaos convened a institutional dialogue at the town hall, following an initiative by council president Nikos Kamenogiannakis. Participants included Mayor Manolis Menegakis, the leaders of the minority groups “Cooperation of Citizens” (Thomas Charitakis), “In Action” (Haris Alexakis) and “People’s Assembly of Agios Nikolaos” (George Filippakis), as well as council vice‑president Maria Chaniotaki‑Mylonaki.
The meeting was described as positive and productive, focusing on improving the organisation of council meetings, adherence to procedural rules, application of the council’s operating regulations, and enhancing participation of all parties. The mayor called the dialogue a “new start” for the council, urging that disputes be settled through dialogue rather than legal challenges. President Kamenogiannakis stressed the need for cooperation, mutual respect and equal participation, and pledged that the proposals presented would be examined to amend the council’s operating rules. Vice‑president Chaniotaki‑Mylonaki highlighted the importance of an active role for the vice‑president in ensuring smooth council functioning. Minority leaders put forward suggestions to increase transparency, provide timely information to councillors, establish accountability mechanisms, broaden citizen involvement, and improve communication between the municipal administration and council factions.
