Agios Nikolaos Municipality initiates infrastructure and heritage projects

The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos is implementing various development initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and preserving local heritage in the Neapoli and Merabelou Lakes areas.

In Neapoli, Mayor Manolis Menegakis has announced several interventions to address long-standing urban planning issues and infrastructure needs. These include new road construction, accessibility improvements, and street lighting upgrades to enhance safety and visibility. The municipality is also working to resolve historical urban planning delays by commissioning technical studies to facilitate the opening of long-pending roads. Additionally, maintenance and aesthetic upgrades are being conducted in public spaces, such as the Monument to the Fallen in the central square.

In the Merabelou Lakes region, efforts are underway to restore and maintain historic metal windmills. This project aims to preserve a unique element of local cultural heritage. The restoration process includes the installation of specialized perforated polyester sails, designed by researcher Giorgos Chatzakis, which provide a self-protection system against strong winds.
