Agios Vasileios receives €1.5 million for wildfire infrastructure repair

The Municipality of Agios Vasileios in Rethymno has been approved for 1.5 million euros in funding to repair infrastructure damaged by wildfires last July.

The majority of the funds will be allocated to restoring water supply and irrigation networks, which suffered extensive damage. These repairs are considered essential for the daily lives of residents and the continuation of local agricultural and livestock activities.

The remaining portion of the budget will be used to repair the road network, focusing on ensuring safe access and improving emergency response capabilities. This funding follows the immediate assessment of damages by municipal committees and the subsequent request for resources. The initiative was supported by Kostas Katsafados, Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, as part of the broader state aid efforts to recover from summer wildfires.
