Aglona Basilica celebrates Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Aglona Basilica is hosting celebrations for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, attracting hundreds of pilgrims from Latvia and abroad. The festivities include several religious services, notably a Solemn Mass at the Pope's altar led by Apostolic Nuncio to the Baltic States, Georg Gänswein.

To accommodate the influx of visitors, significant transportation adjustments have been made. Vivi has scheduled additional train services on August 14 and 15, including a specific stop at Aglona station. On August 15, a train is scheduled to depart Aglona for Riga at 15:30.

Regional bus services have also been expanded, with additional routes connecting Riga, Preiļi, Aglona, and Grāveri. Local authorities and police are monitoring traffic safety and public order during the event. Special precautions are also in place regarding air space security protocols.
