AGMER Congress in La Paz deepens teachers' salary fight and school meals plan
The Extraordinary Congress of AGMER met on Thursday in La Paz, Argentina, and voted to deepen its "plan of struggle." The body empowered its Directorial Commission to implement all necessary actions to restore teachers' salaries and improve working, health and building conditions. It also called for a mandatory collective bargaining round for teachers' wages.
AGMER rejected the provincial decree that would award the food‑service contract to Teknofood, condemning the provision of ultra‑processed foods to school cafeterias. The congress demanded a school‑meal system that matches the social emergency and sought additional educational financing to guarantee the right to education. It also opposed a pension‑reform law, denounced recent repression of peaceful demonstrators, and reaffirmed support for a multisectoral fiduciary fund aimed at protecting the CJyPER.
These resolutions reflect AGMER’s intensified push for better pay, working conditions, and student nutrition amid ongoing labor disputes in the province.
