Agnes Obel announces new album ‘The Meaning of Flowers’
Singer-songwriter and producer Agnes Obel has announced her new studio album, ‘The Meaning of Flowers’, scheduled for release on September 18, 2026, via Deutsche Grammophon. This marks her first full-length project since 2020’s ‘Myopia’.
The twelve-track album was written, arranged, recorded, and produced by Obel in her Berlin studio. The work is inspired by her experiences with pregnancy, birth, and motherhood, exploring themes of interconnectedness, growth, and metamorphosis.
Obel drew intellectual inspiration from various sources, including the poetry of Enheduanna, the philosophy of Hannah Arendt regarding natality, and the writings of Emanuele Coccia. The album features Obel on vocals, piano, keys, and synthesizers, supported by guest musicians playing instruments such as violin, cello, flute, and saxophone. The single ‘Laymelli’ is available ahead of the full release.
