Agnes Obel to release new album ‘The Meaning of Flowers’
Danish musician Agnes Obel is releasing her first studio album in six years, titled ‘The Meaning of Flowers’, on September 18. The twelve tracks were written, arranged, produced, and recorded by the classically trained pianist in her own studio in Berlin.
The album is inspired by profound personal changes, specifically the birth of her first child and themes of new beginnings, connection, and metamorphosis. Her musical influences for this project range from the poems of Enheduanna to the philosophical concepts of Hannah Arendt and Emanuele Coccia, as well as 1980s and 1990s Danish pop.
Obel’s work blends neoclassical piano, chamber pop, and electronic textures. The new release features a diverse array of sounds, including synthesizers, samples, strings, flute, saxophone, and harmonium.
