Agoda reports surge in Japan travel searches for 2026 sports event

Agoda has reported a significant surge in accommodation searches for the Aichi and Nagoya regions in Japan, driven by interest in a major Asian sporting event scheduled for September and October 2026.

Data analysis shows that searches for Toyota City increased by 715% and Ichinomiya City by 504% compared to three weeks prior to the event period. Nagoya remains the top searched city in the region, serving as a hub for various sports including water polo, athletics, basketball, judo, soccer, rugby sevens, gymnastics, and tennis.

International interest is also rising, with travelers from Taiwan, South Korea, and Hong Kong leading the searches. Notably, searches from China saw a 724% increase, likely due to the event's overlap with the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays.
