Agora to merge Gazeta.pl and Wyborcza amid financial crisis

Media group Agora has announced a decision to merge its digital portal Gazeta.pl with its print-focused entity Wyborcza. The merger will involve transferring all assets from Gazeta.pl to Wyborcza to simplify corporate structure, reduce administrative costs, and eliminate redundant functions.

The move follows a period of significant financial difficulty for Agora’s internet segment. Despite implementing mass layoffs earlier this year—including 140 employees across the group and 46 specifically from Gazeta.pl—the company reported a decline in revenues. In the first half of the year, internet segment revenues fell to 56.7 million PLN, driven largely by a sharp drop in advertising income.

This restructuring marks a reversal of a 2023 decision that had separated the two entities into distinct companies. The consolidation aims to create a unified digital, subscription, and advertising offering while improving operational efficiency and management processes.
