Agoura Road closure extended for Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing work

Agoura Road between Rondell Street and Hydepark Drive will remain closed on Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. due to recent rain and weather affecting construction of the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing. Caltrans announced that the closure, originally scheduled to end Friday, was extended to allow crews to remove temporary construction supports.

Motorists will be detoured onto the Ventura (101) Freeway between Chesebro Road and Liberty Canyon Road. A free shuttle service will be available every 30 minutes on Monday for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The project, which spans the 101 Freeway, is intended to reconnect fragmented wildlife habitats in the Santa Monica Mountains, allowing mountain lions and other animals to move safely. Organizers describe it as the largest wildlife crossing of its kind in the world. The project is a collaborative effort involving Caltrans, the National Wildlife Federation, the National Park Service, and the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and public celebration are scheduled for December 2 at King Gillette Ranch.
