AGRA marks 20 years of agricultural partnerships in Africa

The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is marking 20 years of partnership with African nations, focusing on the transition toward climate-resilient and inclusive agricultural systems.

In Nigeria, the Federal Government and AGRA have renewed commitments to address food security challenges posed by population growth and climate change. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, emphasized the need for increased mechanization, sustainable financing, and the empowerment of smallholder farmers, women, and youth to drive commercial agriculture.

In Malawi, discussions centered on the economic necessity of agricultural transformation. Experts highlighted the critical issue of soil depletion, noting that restoring soil fertility through a continental action plan is essential for sustainable production. Challenges such as unpredictable markets, rising production costs, and limited access to finance remain central to the agenda for Malawi’s agricultural sector.
