Agra protesters hold massive tractor march against UGC changes

Protests against new University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations escalated in Agra as thousands of demonstrators conducted a massive tractor march on Sunday. Despite heavy police presence, barricades, and attempts to detain movement leaders, protesters broke through security cordons to reach the Yamuna Expressway.

The demonstration, led by the UGC Mukti Morcha, involved hundreds of tractors and thousands of youths. The march caused significant traffic disruptions, including a 30-minute blockade on the Agra-Noida Expressway that resulted in long vehicle queues.

Clashes were reported between police and protesters at several locations, including scuffles and instances of stone-pelting. While authorities attempted to divert the march using police vehicles and barricades, many protesters bypassed these obstacles by moving through agricultural fields. The protesters aim to submit a memorandum to the District Magistrate regarding the proposed UGC changes.
