Agribusiness sector explores ethanol use in diesel engines to reduce emissions
Industry leaders from Bosch, John Deere, and Grunner are presenting technological solutions to replace fossil diesel with renewable fuels in heavy machinery, specifically targeting the sugarcane and mining sectors.
Bosch Brasil is focusing on dual-fuel technology through retrofit systems. This approach allows existing long-term assets, such as mining machinery and sugarcane harvesters, to be adapted by adding an ethanol injection system and an independent controller without needing to replace the engine head. This installation can be completed in less than a day.
The strategic goal is to minimize the use of imported diesel by utilizing Brazil's domestic ethanol production, which reached approximately 37 billion liters last year. John Deere is also contributing to the transition by developing dedicated engines to improve the economic viability of the energy shift.
