Agribusiness shifts toward regenerative practices and bioinputs

The agricultural sector is increasingly integrating sustainable practices into core business strategies. At the SuperAgro 2026 event, industry leaders from companies such as Nestlé and PepsiCo Brasil discussed how regenerative agriculture is transitioning from a purely environmental agenda to an economic necessity for business survival.

Experts noted that regenerative practices aim to improve soil health, reduce climate risks, and increase producer income. For major corporations like Nestlé, sustainability is now a business discussion rather than just a CSR initiative, particularly within cocoa, coffee, and milk supply chains. The goal is to ensure that green production remains profitable to support farmer livelihoods and family succession.

In parallel, scientific research is advancing the use of bioinputs. Researchers from the Universidade Estadual do Norte Fluminense Darcy Ribeiro (UENF) published a study in Nature Portfolio regarding the use of microbial inoculants. The research highlights the potential of beneficial microorganisms to increase productivity and reduce reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, while noting the complexity of ensuring laboratory successes translate effectively to real-world field conditions.
