Agricultural activity shifts in Paraguay and Argentina following rainfall

Agricultural production in Paraguay and Argentina is navigating varying impacts from recent weather patterns. In Paraguay, recent rainfall has allowed producers to accelerate soybean planting. In departments such as Caaguazú, Hernandarias, and Itapúa, planting has reached between 40% and 45% of the total area due to improved soil moisture. Additionally, the Avatiky program has begun distributing corn seed bags to support small-scale farming, with thousands of bags delivered in Caaguazú and Hernandarias.

In Argentina, the 2026 sugar cane harvest in Tucumán faced an initial 30-day delay caused by excessive rainfall in March and April. While the surplus moisture initially hindered machinery access, mills have since accelerated grinding operations. Daily processing peaks reached 135,000 tons, exceeding the previous season's daily average. Despite this recovery, cumulative grinding as of August 20 stood at 12.45 million tons, which is 17% lower than the same period in 2025. Projections from the Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario suggest continued high precipitation levels through the end of the year, which may impact summer crop planting and wheat harvesting.
