Agricultural advancements in Chile and Cuba

In Chile, the forestry industry is adopting new technologies to mitigate soil erosion and compaction. With over 2.2 million hectares of forest plantations, companies like Salfa, a representative of John Deere, are implementing systems such as Cut to Length (CTL). This technology allows for tree processing directly at the harvest site, reducing surface layer removal and preventing soil ruts. Additionally, suspended wood transport systems are being used to avoid dragging timber across the terrain.

In Pinar del Río, Cuba, the cold-season planting campaign has commenced, covering approximately 45,500 hectares. The campaign faces challenges due to limited availability of fuels and pesticides. To compensate, local agricultural authorities are emphasizing agroecological practices, animal traction, and renewable energy for irrigation. The planting includes tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and various grains and tubers.
