Agricultural advancements in Suriname and Netherlands

In Suriname, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries (LVV) has launched a soil investigation in the Wanica D district near Lelydorp. Using advanced soil nutrient tester kits provided by the World University Service of Canada (WUSC), the initiative aims to provide local producers with insights into soil conditions and nutrient availability to improve crop yields and sustainability.

The first measurements were conducted on September 3, 2026, at a farm in Reeberg. This technology is intended to help farmers optimize fertilizer use, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact by preventing the unnecessary application of nutrients.

In the Netherlands, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) has reappointed Royal GD for a ten-year term to conduct statutory monitoring of animal health and specific diseases. Royal GD has been performing these monitoring tasks since 2002, integrating data from veterinarians, laboratories, and farmers to detect risks such as avian influenza, brucellosis, and Q fever. This monitoring is considered vital for animal welfare, food safety, and international trade stability.
