Agricultural authorities in Peru and Panama implement new crop management strategies

In Peru, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) has approved the Crop Guiding Framework for the 2026/2027 agricultural campaign. This instrument is designed to assist family farmers by organizing national agricultural supply, reducing production risks, and improving market access. The framework focuses on seven key transitory crops: potato, rice, hard yellow corn, starch corn, sweet corn, cassava, and quinoa.

The initiative aims to balance supply and demand to ensure food security and stable food supplies. It also provides technical guidance to regional and local governments to strengthen the agricultural sector following previous climate-related disruptions.

In Panama, agricultural producers in the Colón province are working with the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) to mitigate losses caused by climate change and weather variability. Through the XII Agroclimatic Technical Table, experts and institutional representatives are evaluating climate projections to provide technical recommendations. These guides are intended to help farmers plan planting cycles, minimize economic risks, and optimize farm yields in response to changing weather patterns.
