Agricultural commodity yields and prices show regional shifts
Agricultural reports indicate shifting trends in global commodity production and local market prices. According to the Agricultural Economics Institute (AKI) and USDA projections, global soybean production for the 2026/2027 fiscal year is expected to reach 442.3 million tons, a 3% increase. However, European Union yields face challenges; heatwaves and drought have significantly reduced soybean outlooks in France and Central Europe, with the EU total expected to drop by 8% to 2.7 million tons.
Wheat production is also seeing fluctuations. Global wheat harvests for the 2026/2027 period are projected at 819 million tons, a 3% decrease from the previous season. In the European Union, autumn wheat harvests are expected to fall by 7% to 126.8 million tons. Specific regional impacts include a 5% decrease in France and a 4% decrease in Germany due to heatwaves, while Romania expects a 5% increase.
In Hungary, producer prices for various crops have seen declines compared to the previous year. During the first week of August, the producer price for food wheat (excluding VAT and transport) was 67,200 HUF/ton, a 13% decrease year-on-year. Feed wheat prices fell by 9%, and feed corn prices decreased by 1%.
