Agricultural credit and debt relief initiatives launched in India

In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced three major initiatives to bolster agricultural credit and infrastructure. The state aims to cover 3.49 lakh Kisan Credit Card (KCC) accounts under a loan resolution framework to help farmers settle overdue debts and regain access to institutional credit. To date, loans totaling Rs 1,741.15 crore have been covered. Additionally, the state has set a target of Rs 2,050 crore under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), offering loans up to Rs 22 crore for eligible projects with reduced interest rates. A partnership between PepsiCo and a bank has also been established to support potato farmers with cultivation expenses and quality inputs.

In Dharashiv, Maharashtra, local authorities have issued an urgent call for 3,824 farmers to complete their Aadhaar authentication to access benefits from the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Debt Waiver Scheme. While 12,356 farmers in the taluka have completed the process, the remaining individuals must visit Common Service Centre (CSC) locations to avoid further delays. Officials emphasized that the authentication process is free of charge and warned farmers not to pay any fees to CSC operators.
