Agricultural credit distribution varies by sector and region

In the Dominican Republic, data from the state-owned Banco Agrícola reveals that between January and September 2026, formalized agricultural loans totaled RD$13,423.6 million. A significant portion of this funding, approximately 69.4% of the RD$19,345.7 million total formalized by the bank, was concentrated in three specific sectors: rice, cocoa, and tobacco.

Rice led the distribution, accounting for RD$5,633.2 million, or 42% of the total agricultural financing. Within the rice sector, pignoration (pledging assets) represented the largest share at RD$2,885.4 million, or roughly 51.2% of that specific category's funding, followed by production and marketing.

Meanwhile, in Chile, the Institute for Agricultural Development (INDAP) has issued an invitation to small-scale farmers to utilize short-term credit lines. These loans are designed to finance working capital for family farming, covering expenses such as seeds, fertilizers, animal feed, soil preparation, and harvesting labor. The credit offers terms of up to 359 days with preferential interest rates tailored to the production cycles of the applicants.
